Группа Moonblood была сформирована в Германии в 1993 году благодаря двум андерграундным отродьям - Gaamalzagoth и Occulta Mors. Сначала была группа Purulent Obduction, которая в периоды с 1990 по 1994 играла death metal под предводительством Occulta Mors, Necromaniac, L.O.N.S., Blacksoul (потом он взял себе ник Gaamalzagoth, настоящее имя - Mirko Schmat). Позже Purulent Obduction эволюционировала в Demoniac.
